Michael Torke Tahiti - No Trouble Here
While superficially both “Fiji” and “Tahiti” seem to be light-hearted works (on par with Mozart's serenades), they aren’t totally lightweight. Both compositions offer enough substance to merit repeated listening. This means I’ll be returning to "Tahiti" again sometime soon.
Vivaldi - Return of Angels
Janacek Piano Works
These recordings were originally released on RCA Red Seal over a decade ago. Newton Classics provides a real service by making them available again.
Magnificent Music by Philippe Rogier
Cudos go to Magnificat, directed by Philip Cave. This early music vocal ensemble has a wonderful blend.
Honegger More Than One-Hit Wonder
If you’re not familiar with Honegger, or – worse yet – only know his one hit, this disc can be a revelation.
Paavo Jarvi at Home with Baltic Portraits
If you’re familiar with any of these composers, Baltic Portraits will be a treat. If you’re not, Paavo Jarvi and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra make a compelling case for further exploration of these composers’ works.

Riisager Symphonic Music: Unsung Composer Gets a Hearing
Conductor Bo Holten is a composer as well, which may be why the works on this album coalesce so beautifully. The performers believe in this music, and that attitude is infectious.
