#ClassicsaDay #UkrainianClassics Week 1
The challenge is to post music from Ukrainian composers. Some were subjects of Imperial Russia. Others were citizens of the USSR. And some live in the independent nation of Ukraine.
The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour: Jerry Goldsmith
This week we turn our focus to American composer Jerry Goldsmith (1929-2004). Goldsmith left a legacy of innovative and influential film compositions. As composer Marco Beltrami said, “(he) bridged the gap between the old Hollywood scoring style and the modern film composer.”
Anders Eliasson symphonies present a unique voice
All three works are exceptionally well-constructed. And, at least for me, this disc was successful in its mission. I now want to hear more from this extraordinary composer.
WorldView Episode 10: Adrienne Albert & Jacques Hétu
#ClassicsaDay #PoetryMonth 2022 Week 4
For the month of April, the challenge is to post poetry used in classical music or works inspired by poetry.
Henze: Nachtstücke und Arien worth exploring
Henze's music isn't easy to perform -- or to listen to. These artists provide a compelling reason to make the effort, though. And for the intrepid listener, the rewards are great.
Pál Hermann Complete Surviving Music Vol. 2 ensures legacy
So little of this artist's legacy survived. But I'm grateful some of it did. And especially grateful to Toccata Classics for presenting it to the world.
We are grateful for the generosity of the Joseph and Robert Cornell Memorial Foundation and UVA Arts Council, supporting WTJU and CharlottesvilleClassical.org.
