Rautavaara and Aho — Joy & Asymmetry Indeed!
Different in style, but somehow similar in intent. These are choral works meant to evoke an atmosphere. Both composers have very subtle contrasts. Both demand the full attention of the listener.

The mix of instruments that make up an octet varies. Some composers wrote for double string quartet, some for wind instruments, and some for a blend of instruments.
Rautavaara Choral Works — Beautiful, and Beautifully Recorded
The major work on the album, Missa a cappella, is a floating, ever-changing cloud of sound that benefits from the resonant echoes of the cathedral it was recorded in.
Rautavaara Concertos from Ondine
This is a fine addition to Ondine's catalog of Rautavaara recordings.
