Tune Thy Musicke to Thy Hart
Stile Antico performs with clarity and precision. Fretwork lends support on some selections, their viols adding a warm richness to the ensemble. Even if you have a lot of Renaissance music, I highly recommend this recording.
Listening to Richter
Fortunately, Richter's recorded legacy is almost as vast as his repertoire.
Lisa Smirnova plays Handel
Guilty Pleasures at the Opera
On Sunday, February 26, at 2 P.M. our Sunday Opera Matinee resumes after the conclusion of our Rock Marathon that achieved fundraising wonders for WTJU. We will be presenting Umberto Giordano's Andrea Chenier (1896), a perennial audience favorite.
Bruckner Symphonies 4, 7 & 9
Whether you are new to Bruckner's symphonies or one of the growing number of admirers of his music, this recording is not to be missed.
Roussel - The Spider's Banquet an Aural Feast
If you’re not familiar with Roussel, this disc might be a good place to start. The Spider’s Banquet just may entice you into Roussel’s charming musical web.
Johannes Eccard - Sacred and Secular Works
Cudos to Gregor Meyer and his ensembles for presenting this music. Their performances are clean and unaffected, letting the structure of the music come through clearly. Listening to this recording, it's easy to understand why Bach closely studied Eccard's music.
Nelson Freire Interprets Liszt
If your taste runs to the Romantic, and you admire superior pianism, look no further.
"French Impressions" Impresses
I never really thought much about these sonatas before. Joshua Bell and Jeremy Denk have changed my mind, giving me a new appreciation for these compositions. That's impressive.
We are grateful for the generosity of the Joseph and Robert Cornell Memorial Foundation and UVA Arts Council, supporting WTJU and CharlottesvilleClassical.org.
